For those who believe another world is possible
We just thought they would be a bunch of adventurous people out there who not only wanted to discover missional life in God but wanted to do so in the major cities of the world. So we are offering this unique mobile DTS where students will travel to Toronto, London, Amsterdam, Dakar, Beijing, Sydney and Vancouver.
Why Global Cities
Celebrated sociologist/historian Rodney Stark documents in his recent book “Cities of God” that the early church had a strategic mission focus on the major cities of its day. Fast-forward to today and we see that the world is moving to cities: 200 years ago 3% of the world was urban, today over 50%. China alone is building 300 new cities to accommodate the massive migration of its largely rural population. Additionally, many of today’s major cities have become global centers with places like Amsterdam being home to people from over 176 nations and today and if you took the bus in Toronto yesterday, you just might have heard over 100 different languages been spoken back and forth. Perhaps it’s safe to say, that for those of us who believe another world is possible, we need to take these global cities pretty seriously.
Mobile Format?
As with all of our DTSes - the inward journey of spiritual formation and the outward journey of social transformation are the priority of the Global Cities DTS. In the mobile format, the classroom and outreach portions of the DTS are interspersed. For example in the upcoming school you will be doing 2 weeks of teaching/spiritual formation in London before heading off to Amsterdam for 2 weeks of outreach, then back to teaching in Dakar, Senegal. We have found that students find this format very meaningful.
YWAM 50th Anniversary
2010 marks the 50yr anniversary for YWAM. What better way to celebrate what God has done in and through YWAM across the world but with a Global DTS? We are excited to have some of those leaders who jumpstarted YWAM in the 60’s interact with you during your classroom segment. They are coming with passion, knowledge, hopes for the future and some fascinating stories to share with you. HEY, already people are talking about this DTS and space is limited so be sure to register early!
